- Record attendance achieved at show
- Digital technologies a hot topic as visitors look for investment opportunities as a way to grow their businesses
Indian printers and converters are on the lookout for technologies and processes that can help them innovate and grow their businesses at a time when the country’s packaging and label markets are to receive a major boost.
That is the view of Roger Pellow, labels and packaging group managing director at Package Print Worldwide parent Tarsus, as he announced details of a record-breaking Labelexpo India 2012.
The latest Labelexpo India show, which took place in New Delhi this week, attracted a record 8,049 visitors, a 33 percent increase from the previous show in 2010.
In addition, many of the exhibitors upgraded their space and a 53 percent rebook was achieved.
As with other international Labelexpo shows, package printing technology had a place on the exhibition floor.
With the changes taking place with regard to retail foreign direct investment (FDI), the Indian retail sector is to go through a large transition, which will benefit both the packaging and label markets.
Pellow, who is also managing director of the Labelexpo Global Series of events, said: ‘The market here in India is now gearing up to take off.
‘In the next two years there will be huge opportunity for labels and packaging, which will be accelerated by FDI.
‘Numerous printers were asking about digital technologies and there was a real buzz at the show, with everybody talking about investing, innovating and growing.’
Mike Fairley, director of strategic development at Tarsus, and Package Print Worldwide international publishing director, added: ‘Printers [in India] today are investing in the highest levels of technology and are now attaining some of the best quality performance seen anywhere in the world.
‘It has been impressive to see just what has been achieved, but this is probably still only a small step forward in what the Indian industry will achieve over the next four to six years.’
